Spiritual Growth at UCC Midland

 

Adult education is offered in a variety of ways at the United Church of Christ, Midland. Throughout the program year (September-June) three Bible Studies are offered each week. Two of these studies are based on the Revised Common Lectionary scripture texts. These studies are offered on Wednesdays at 8:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The Tuesday Book Study meets at 12 noon. Over the years the participants in this class have chosen to study books from the Bible, the Apocrypha, as well as sacred texts from a variety of world religions.

As well as a number sacred texts about world religions. Occasionally additional, short term Adult Education Opportunities are offered. These opportunities have included studies on topics such as Institutionalized Racism, White Privilege, Heresy, Gun Violence, Voting Rights, Abuse Prevention, Mental Health, and many other topics. These classes are generally led by members of the congregation who have an interest in a particular topic.

During the season of Lent our Board of Deacons offers Wednesday evening programs which include dinner, an educational activity, and a brief devotional service. Educational activities have included guest speakers from other faith traditions, the sharing of our faith stories, and the relationship of science and religion, and deeper study of spiritual practices.

The adult education programs offered at the United Church of Christ, Midland are open to all members and friends. There is no requirement that participants attend every week.
